Utah Scenics: Bryce Canyon National Park

Jayne and I visited Bryce Canyon National Park  on two separate mornings during our recent visit to southern Utah. We had to drive an hour and a half from our lodging in Brian Head.

This park features a collection of amphitheaters

…with towering hoodoos that glow shades of orange with different light…

Bryce 2

The rim varies in height from 8,000 to 9,000 feet at Rainbow Point.

Bryce 4

The first morning we were there, we missed the sunrise by one hour. Already most of the good light was gone. That didn’t stop us from driving through the entire park
, stopping at most of the lookouts along the way…

…from Sunrise/Sunset Points, Inspiration Point, all the way down to Rainbow Point.

By far, my favorite spot was Inspiration Point. And it is aptly named. The grandeur from that precarious lookout is the epitome of what comes to mind when one talks of the beauty of Bryce Canyon.

Bryce 7

The second morning, we still missed the sunrise, but this time by only a half hour. I knew I wanted to shoot only at Inspiration Point. The light was better and I was able to catch more of the glowing hoodoos.
