In this final look at our recent trip to southern Italy, I’d like to talk about a few miscellaneous topics.

One of the other locations we visited was the city of Santa Maria di Leuca . Founded in the early 1st century AD by some monks, it is the southeastern extremity of Italy — traditionally considered the lowest point of the geographical “heel” of Italian peninsula, as well as the meeting point of the waters from the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea.

Numerous grottoes and caves line its picturesque coastline. We took a grotto tour by boat that was both fascinating and enjoyable.

Jayne was able to swim within one of the grottos!

Another interesting thing we encountered was the burning of olive tree pruning in many of the plantations as part of the fall cleanup .

The place we stayed had beautiful grounds.

The architecture produced some interesting abstracts in various morning and afternoon light.

I’ll end with an interesting character we met in Matera, a juggler, saying Hi Mom!” to me as I snapped his picture!
